(Location: Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture; President: Takashi Migita; hereinafter “Migita Honten”¬), the oldest sake brewery in Shimane Prefecture, received the “Platinum Award” in the Junmai Daiginjo and Daiginjo Sake category at the Milan Sake Challenge 2024 held in Milan, Italy, the first time “Somi Yamadanishiki Polished 18” was awarded the Platinum Award, which only 5% of all the awarded sake is selected. It was the first entry to win this award.
In the sake tasting category, only one of the Platinum Award winners was nominated for the Magnifica Award, the highest award given to a single brand.
The purpose of this competition is to promote the attractiveness of sake to the world, and we are honored that Shimane Prefecture’s sake was selected in such a competition.

■About the Award
The MILANO SAKE CHALLENGE, held annually in Milan, Italy since 2019, is Italy’s largest sake competition, held annually in Italy, a country known for its gourmet food and design.
This sake competition is judged mainly by Italian sake sommeliers selected from among the best sake sommeliers certified by the Sake Sommelier Association Italiana, and in addition to the tasting judging, there is a design judging by famous Italian designers, and a food and beverage judging by Italian designers. The sake competition is unique in that it focuses on the selection of the best sake, with a tasting, a design judging by a famous Italian designer, and a food pairing judging with Italian ingredients and cuisine, which is also popular in Japan.
The Milan Sake Challenge Sake Contest is held in Italy, Europe’s number one rice-producing country, with the aim of spreading awareness of the possibilities and appeal of sake pairing with Italian cuisine, and of spreading the breadth and depth of sake and sake-related knowledge to Italians, thereby spreading the excellence of sake throughout the world. The purpose of the sake competition is to spread the breadth and depth of sake and the knowledge of sake to Italians.
