Migita Whiskey, made by Shimane Prefecture’s oldest sake brewery, wins first category winner at WWA 2024!

(Location: Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture; Toji: Takashi Migita; hereafter “Ugeta Honten”), the oldest sake brewery in Shimane Prefecture, has won the highest award in the category “Category Winner” and “Gold” for Migita Blended Whiskey Bourbon Style at the WORLD WHISKIES AWARDS 2024 held in the UK. won the “Category Winner” and “Gold”, the highest award in the category, at the World Whiskies Awards (hereafter referred to as “WWA 2024”).

We are proud to have received such a brilliant award for our first entry, and we will continue to work diligently to produce whiskey that can only be made in Shimane Prefecture, and that people who drink it will say is delicious.

The World Whisky Awards (WWA) is a competition for whiskies from around the world organized by Paragraph Publishing, publishers of the British whisky magazine “Whisky Magazine”.

The “Best of the Best” competition has been held every two years since 2001, and in 2007, the name was changed to the “World Whisky Awards” and the competition has become an annual event.

Since the “Best of the Best”, the judging is conducted by blind tasting without telling the brand name.
The judging is rigorous, and it is the world’s most prestigious competition, trusted by whisky makers and fans around the world.

3. The challenge of Ugeta Honten, the oldest sake brewery in Shimane Prefecture, the birthplace of sake
Focusing on the clean spring water and fruitful climate of Masuda City in Shimane Prefecture, we began brewing sake in Masuda.
Since then, sake brewing has continued uninterrupted for more than 400 years, and we have been producing sake with an emphasis on quality and tradition.

Urita Honten is proud to be the oldest sake brewery in Shimane Prefecture, which is said to be the birthplace of sake, and has a philosophy of “inheriting and evolving tradition.

We have used the techniques cultivated in sake brewing to produce whiskey, and have created a whiskey with different flavors and a mellow mouthfeel for each product.

We will continue to take on new challenges while preserving our traditions, and we will do our utmost to ensure that our whiskey is “delicious” when people actually taste it.
